I Like Your Style: Joungin Choi

Fashion + Style Interviews

Joungin and I went to the same high school. She was a couple grades ahead of me, but has always been a very, very kind person. She even sends me Christmas cards! Along with being one of the friendliest students at school, I noticed she was pretty fashionable. It took me long enough to ask Joungin to be featured, and I enjoyed learning a little more about her.

Where are you from?

I am from Busan, South Korea. I moved to Michigan when I was sixteen years old. After living in Michigan for 6 years, I wanted to live in another foreign country, so I did working holiday in Australia for a year. Now I’m in Korea, getting ready to go back to Michigan next year.
What are you studying/doing for a living?

I study Psychology at University of Michigan, but thinking about changing to Business or Organizational Studies.

Any hobbies?

Films, music, intimate one-to-one conversations, running, shopping, and traveling.

What does style mean to you?

Style is movement. It constantly changes with intentions or without intentions.
What words would you use to describe your style?

Balance. I like to have a balanced life and I think I subconsciously try to express this ideal through fashion. I don’t like when my outfit is too simple or too complex. Once in a while, I break my rule and overload with colors and chunky jewelries.
Where are your favorite places to shop?

H&M.
Do you have any favorite fashion icons or designers?

Olivia Palermo is my fashion icon. Her style is so elegant. It’s ultimate sophistication.
With regards to your style, where do you get your inspiration?

My mom is my muse. She studied fashion when she was in school, so she is knowledgeable about clothing materials. It’s always interesting to hear from her about textures, colors, and materials that are made of. The solid knowledge about individual pieces really help me to be creative.
Is there one article of clothing you couldn’t live without?

It changes time to time. Currently, I’m obsessed with my three pairs of Le Specs sunglasses. These days, I wear them everywhere that they become part of my makeup!

Thanks so much, Joungin! Much love to you.
