Song of the Month: “Here” by Alessia Cara

Music
My song of the month is “Here” by Alessia Cara. This song has been around since April of last year, but I still listen to it (and a lot this month). Cara is a 19 year-old Canadian singer and songwriter with an incredibly soulful voice. “Here,” Cara’s debut single, was released in April 2015 through Def Jam, put on her EP Four Pink Walls in August, and then put on her debut album Know-It-All in November.

This song is for anyone who hate parties. Cara wrote the song simply because she went to a party and did not want to be there. I love this song because I 100% relate to it. I am naturally a homebody and cannot stand most parties, so as soon as I heard the lyrics, I exclaimed, “this is me!” The song is also super catchy and fun to sing, which is probably why I am still listening to and singing it nine months later. If you have not already, get Cara’s album Know-It-All, as it features a good collection of songs from this fresh voice.

Enjoy.
