Song of the Month: “Cranes in the Sky” by Solange

Music

My song of the month is “Cranes in the Sky” by Solange. I know I just wrote a review of A Seat at the Table last month, but I can’t pretend like I haven’t been listening and re-listening to the album nonstop since its release. “Cranes in the Sky” is probably my favourite track on the album.

The song is airy, delicate, and pretty; but the subject matter is heavy. With a sound sometimes reminiscent of Minnie Riperton, assisted by R&B singer Tweet, Solange sparklingly sings about attempting to drink, sex, or even dance pain away. The visual created for this song is captivatingly stunning. I desperately want that pink coat that’s shown in the first frame.

Enjoy.
