Song of the Month: “Fantasy” by Alina Baraz & Galimatias

My song of the month is “Fantasy” by Alina Baraz & Galimatias. Before hearing this song, I hadn’t heard of either artist; but what I do know is that Baraz is a Cleveland-born and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, Galimatias is a Danish producer, and their musical union is a match made in heaven.

The song is from Baraz and Galimatias’ EP Urban Flora, released in May of this year. Yesterday, I heard a snippet of it on Instagram, Shazam’d it, and downloaded it on Apple Music right away. It has been on repeat ever since, and I expect to play it the rest of the month. The song starts as a dream, then suddenly and smoothly turns into summer. Baraz’s alluring voice and Galimatias’ endearing tones match perfectly; and it’s the perfect song to play while driving on the Coronado Bridge, relaxing on the beach, in love, or breathing.

I wish I had this song in my library over the summer, but now I’m using it to cling to the idea and fond memories of my favourite season of the year.
