I first found Deveja on Twitter and was instantly captivated by his immaculate sense of style. After a retweet, I immediately knew that I had to slide in his DMs (for an interview, of course). Deveja’s style, while bold, is classic and just flat out dope; but I’ll let him speak for himself in the interview below.
Where are you from?
Dallas, TX.
What are you studying or doing for a living?
I’m attending Cedar Valley Community College online for business. I also currently work as a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance alongside fulltime photography and modeling.
Any hobbies?
Skating, singing, writing poetry.
What does style mean to you?
Style to me means being able to apply a positive spin on any outfit put in front of you. To be able to combine colors and textures to achieve an unconventional look that someone else couldn’t easily replicate.
What words would you use to describe your style?
Bold. Transcending. Of yesterday. Unapologetic. Refreshing.
How has your style and fashion sense evolved over the years? Are you comfortable in it or are you still growing and figuring it out?
My style has transformed from the kid with all the Jordans and shoes with a white t-shirt and jeans to the young man that enjoys monk style dress shoes, pea coats, and three-piece suits. But as I grow, I never forget that side of me that loved dressing casual. I still collect sneakers to this day that I wear from time to time. The crazy thing I always think about is how my style will change when I’m about 26 or 27. I’m only 23 now, so I’m ready for the growth.
Where are your favorite places to shop?
To name a few: H&M, Zara, Asos, Johnston & Murphy.
Do you have any favorite fashion icons or designers?
My great-grandfather Darrell Webb.
With regard to your style, where do you get your inspiration?
I constantly draw inspiration from legends such as Fonzworth Bentley, Jidenna, and Andre 3000. My background in art weaving and blending colors enhanced my style and creating looks become second nature.
Is there one article of clothing you couldn’t live without?
Nicely tailored pair of dress pants.
Any life advice, parting words, or final thoughts?
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they shall never sit in.
Thanks, Deveja!
