Getting accepted into ONE Ivy League school is a notable accomplishment. Kwasi Enin got accepted into all of them.
Yes, you read it right. Enin, a 17-year-old senior at William Floyd High School in Mastic, New York, got a scholastic royal flush by getting accepted by Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia, Cornell, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Yale, and finally, Harvard.
Enin is a first-generation American, whose parents, both nurses, emigrated from Ghana. Enin scored 2,250 out of 2,400 points, putting him in the 99th percentile for African-American students. He ranks Number 11 his class of 647 students, putting him in the top 2% of his class. By the time Enin graduates, he will have completed 11 AP courses. He’s also a musician. Whoa.
He got the idea to apply to all eight schools in 10th or 11th grade. “By applying to all eight,” he said, “I figured it would better the chances of getting into one.”
Thousands of students began hearing from the schools on 27 March, Enin included. He was accepted into Princeton in December, but he wanted to see if he could get a few more. By about 5:00pm, Enin was accepted into six of the remaining seven schools. At about 5:30pm, the school he thought wouldn’t accept him, sent him a yes.
And that’s awesome. “For most of the eight schools, acceptance comes rarely, even among the USA’s top students. At the top end, Cornell University admitted only 14% of applicants. Harvard accepted just 5.9%” (USA Today).
Enin hopes to be a physician, possibly a cardiologist or neurologist. He is leaning towards attending Yale. “They seem to embody all the kinds of things I want in a college. The family, the wonderful education, the amazing diverse students, financial aid as well.”
